Hear

Hear the Prophets

"If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead" (Luke 16:31).

When one of you has a grievance against a brother, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, matters pertaining to this life! (1 Cor. 6 : 1-3)

Delight in God's Word

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night (Psalm 1:1-2).

Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels (Luke 9: 26).

But for the searching and right understanding of the Scriptures there is need of a good life and a pure soul, and for Christian virtue to guide the mind to grasp, so far as human nature can, the truth concerning God the Word.

These are fountains of salvation that they who thirst may be satisfied with the living words they contain. In these alone is proclaimed the doctrine of godliness.

Let no man add to these, neither let him take out from these. For concerning these, the Lord put to shame the Sadducees, and said, 'Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures' and He reproved the Jews, saying, 'Search the Scriptures, for these are they that testify of ME". [St Athanasius of Alexandria describing the canon in his 39th Festal Letter (c.367)]........(St Matthew, 22, v. 29.).( St. John, 5, v. 39).

How to be a Disciple of the Lord Jesus
  • "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me (Lk 9: 23).
  • If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
  • Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple (Lk 14: 26-27)."
  • A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one when he is fully taught will be like his teacher (Lk 6:40).
  • So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple (Lk 14: 33).
